Stores that are Open on Thanksgiving Day 2017 & Hours

The Spirit of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is about gratitude. It is that special day of the year when we stop everything we’re doing, and think about the most important things in our lives for which we are most thankful.

This is the favorite holiday for many people, myself included. When I think of this special day, there are some traditions that are so synonymous with this wonderful day. And I’m not just talking about turkey, and the other great food.

Watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade is a long tradition, and it gets better every year. Then, of course, it wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without watching the Detroit Lions play football. It doesn’t matter who they play. On this day, the Lions are on the big stage. Then, there’s a tradition of watching the Dallas Cowboys. Though they have not been on TV on this day as long as the Lions, it has become a tradition. Finally, there’s always a college football game at night, featuring two arch rivals.

Thanksgiving – The ‘Calm Before the Storm’ of Black Friday

The arrival of Thanksgiving means the Christmas Season is in full bloom. Of course, the Hallmark Channel may claim the Holiday Season actually begins a month sooner. For this great network, their Christmas Season began October 27, when the amazing Christmas Movies on Hallmark began airing on their two channels. And they have some great movies that will premier this year.

For many people, this day means, “It’s time to go Christmas Shopping.”

So, when do you begin shopping? This can be a little confusing. Some stores are closed on Thanksgiving Day. Others open their doors at midnight, and stay open for the next 24 hours. Others that open 24 hours all year round will close their doors on this great holiday, and re-open just in time for Black Friday.

You may be asking yourself, “Which stores will be open on Thanksgiving?”

Stores definitely open on Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day, 2017 will be November 23. There will be a longer Holiday Season this year, due to the early date.

Bass Pro Shop is closed for only one Holiday – Christmas Day. This means they will be open. The hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Big Lots will be open, but the hours have not yet been announced.

GameStop willl be open, but the hours have not yet been announced.

Kohl’s will open at 5 p.m.

Macy’s will open at 5 p.m. and will close at 10 p.m. on Black Friday.

Michaels will open at 6 p.m., and at 5 p.m. for Rewards members.

Rite Aid will be open. My guess is, they will open at their regular hours.

Stores probably open on Thanksgiving Day

The following stores will probably open late on Thanksgiving Day, and stay open all through Black Friday.

Best Buy will probably open at 6 p.m.

Dick’s Sporting Goods is likely to open their doors at 6 p.m.

JCPenney will probably open at 4 in the afternoon.

Kmart is expected to open at 6 p.m.

Sears is expected to open at 6 p.m.

Target is expected to open at 6 p.m.

Toys R Us will probably open their doors at 5 p.m.

Walgreens is expected to open at 8 in the morning.

Walmart is predicted to open at 6 p.m. Some Walmart stores may open their doors at midnight.

Thanksgiving compared to Black Friday

Thanksgiving will have fewer sales than Black Friday. However, there will be more people lining up to take advantage of the great deals in the stores. It is estimated that there will be $1.5 billion in sales, which will be split among the few stores that decide to open.

With Online Shopping, it does not matter

One thing is for certain. The Internet never closes. If you have become attached to this form of buying like so many millions of happy customers, it doesn’t matter who is open or closed.
